Alumni E-Communications

Launched in March 2016, WCS Alumni Today (formerly Warrior News) is a quarterly e-newsletter with stories for alumni and about alumni. The responsive and scan-able design allows you to peruse the headlines from your preferred personal device and click on the news of interest to you. Here’s a tip. Click “View Online” at the top of the newsletter. Then you can just migrate from one article to the next using the back arrow.

The WCS Alumni Today is emailed to alumni, alumni parents, and friends who have an active email account on file. If you are a graduate and would like to receive the WCS Alumni Today, please update your information. Alumni parents and friends wishing to receive the e-news, please email us.

6Polly (Jenkins) Shoemaker (WCS ’80) serves as the e-newsletters editor. Polly has a long history with WCS dating back to 1973 when the school opened its doors. She joined the WCS staff for a second time in August 2014 as director of advancement after serving at a Christian university and school in Columbia, SC for 15 years. Polly and husband Mick have five young adult children, the youngest of whom is a member of the WCS Class of 2017.

Email Polly with feedback about the e-news, ideas for what you’d like to see in future publications, recommended alumni to feature, or just to say ‘hello.’

5Paul Batterson is a WCS Alumni Today contributing writer. He loves WCS and sharing stories about current and former students. After being a longtime writer for ThisWeekNews, Paul is pursuing a teaching degree. He and his wife Nancy have two children—Alicia (WCS ’14) and Grant (WCS ’18).

Liz Bookheimer is a WCS Alumni Today contributing writer. Liz joined the WCS office staff in 1978 and faithfully served for the next 37 years. She is thankful that God planted her where He wanted her to grow.  Liz was instrumental in beginning the first Alumni News in the eighties and has watched it grow and develop over the years into the fine digital publication it is today.  Liz and her husband Ron have two grown sons, both WCS grads, and six grandchildren.

Laura Fitzpatrick is a WCS Alumni Today contributing writer. A native of Tennessee, Laura moved to Columbus to be near her husband’s family in 2011. She taught three years of high school ESL in Tennessee and worked at the newcomer ESL school for Columbus City Schools until her first son was born in 2013. Laura stays home with her daughter and foster son.

Sarah (O’Donnell) Sanders (WCS ’86) is a WCS Alumni Today contributing writer. After graduating from Grace College, Sarah worked for a non-profit, traveled a bit, spent about five years working for McGraw-Hill publishing, and for the past 13 years has been a stay-at-home mom. She homeschooled her kids for seven years. Sarah and her husband, Scott, are excited for their children to start at Worthington Christian in the Fall of 2017.

2Melanie Watts is our in-house database coordinator. Melanie loves scouring yearbooks, looking for missing alumni, and discovering new information about alumni. She gets excited when she can update a graduate’s record! Melanie joined the Office of Advancement in December 2014 but has been part of the WCS community since 2011. Melanie is the mom to Carter (WCS ’15) and twin daughters Caitlin and Courtney (WCS ’21).
