Musical Arts - Middle School
Thanks to our strings teacher, Mrs. Johnson, 7th grader, Amy Early successfully auditioned last May to perform with the Columbus Symphony Chamber Youth Orchestra. On Friday March 2, the entire 62 member orchestra traveled to two schools in Delaware and performed 3 concerts for students under the direction of Dr. Robert Gillespi, a professor of music from the Ohio State University. Amy has found playing in the Chamber Orchestra very challenging, but also very rewarding. Amy says that when she has learned to songs well and is playing with the group it “makes me feel like a really good violin player” especially when the whole orchestra is playing together. This year the Chamber Orchestra will attend by special audition invitation the American Strings Teachers Association (ASTA) meeting in Detroit on March 8-19. Amy is looking forward to the honor of playing for some of the best strings teachers in the world.
