School is out, and I’m quite sure many of you are on the road and in the air by now.
I’ll be quick! Here is our mid-term exam schedule. I’ll have more to say after break, but perhaps someone might want to sit down with a turkey sandwich next weekend and plan out the next few weeks! It could happen.
Generally, we don’t share things like this with the whole school, but what follows this is one of those exceptional things that we should all be praying about, and some might wish to do more.
Junior Josh Burton’s family has just faced tragedy. Josh’s aunt, Debbie Swanger, wife of Dr. Bob Swanger (Pastor of River Community Church in Delaware, Ohio) was suddenly taken into the presence of the Lord a couple of days ago.
I sent Josh’s dad, David, a text today and here is what he wrote back:
“She was a wonderful nurturing Christian mother to 13 (and grandmother to eight) of whom the youngest four children (now ages ten to five) were adopted away from horribly abusive, neglectful and methamphetamine-addicted and drug-dealing parents three and a half years ago. She nurtured them in ways they never knew before and they have all flourished. Debbie has quite a legacy in the Lord . . . The entire Swanger clan is all in shock right now, but we will conduct a Memorial Service on Saturday November 17 at 1:00 PM at River Community Church, 2419 U.S. 42 North, Delaware, Ohio 43015. Dr. and Mrs. Swanger founded the church 30 years ago, and Mrs. Swanger served by his side until her death.”
If you know Josh or his family, you are invited to attend. But one thing we Warriors can do is pray for those who are reeling under what has just occurred. Those who called her mom, grandma, aunt, sister, wife, and who looked to her for spiritual leadership and comfort are now in need of the comfort only God can bring. Pray for them as the Lord brings them to mind this weekend. Josh is a member of the House of Lux.
One last thing . . . if anyone asks me what I’m thankful for I will answer without hesitation that I am thankful for the students, parents and teachers who are a part of Worthington Christian High School. We love our Warriors very much and we all work hard to give them the best education possible as well as challenge and nurture them in their walk with God. They bring us great joy as we interact with them, teach them, learn from them and serve with them.
Bless you all and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Proud to be a thankful Warrior,
