We are proud to announce that three WCHS students have received regional awards from the prestigious Scholastics Art and Writing Awards organization. The local judges for this regional event were Columbus College of Art and Design professors.

WC sophomore Emma Kurzenknabe received a Gold Key award for her original work in India ink. Senior Luke Simons received a Silver Key award for his original work in India ink. Both Emma and Luke created their sketches in Beginning Drawing during a unit emphasizing experimental practices. Senior Liz Mason received an Honorable Mention for a painting she completed in Advanced Painting portraying her own personal view of the WC student parking lot.

Emma and Luke’s award-winning art will be on display in a show at CCAD from February 11-22, 9:00-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, and Saturday-Sunday noon-5:00 p.m.

Emma’s work will go on with the other Gold Key award recipients to compete at the national level in New York this spring.
