Middle and High School Music Instructor honored by colleagues and PTF Endowment Fund

Since 1990, the Worthington Christian School Parent-Teacher Fellowship Endowment Fund has annually named a WCS Teacher of the Year to a deserving member of the school’s faculty. The honoree, who receives a cash gift from the endowment fund, is chosen by a vote of faculty colleagues with the intent of recognizing excellence in teaching, a commitment to professionalism, and a desire for the Christian formation of students’ hearts and minds. As endowment chair and alumni parent Jim Edwards notes, “The recipient is selected by fellow teachers based on who they believe best demonstrates the ability to inspire all students to learn.”

The WCS PTF Endowment Fund is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2019 PTF Endowment Fund Teacher of the Year Award is Julie Nathan. Representatives from the fund presented her with the award in a surprise ceremony during her afternoon band class at the middle school. Also present was Julie’s family. She was selected for this award by her peers, and so from all of her colleagues at WC, we extend our sincere congratulations. This honor is very well-deserved. The 2018 Teacher of the Year was Kelly Burby.

Julie began her career at WC in 2004 as development director. In 2011 she transitioned to band director and has worked with our middle and high school bands since then. The bands have seen tremendous growth in the eight years under her leadership, more than quadrupling in size. Many of her students have been named to area honors bands and have received awards for their musical accomplishments. Some have continued to pursue musical studies in college or as a vocation.

WCMS Principal Tammi Evans describes her this way: “Julie is an expert in her arena. We recognize and appreciate the time and energy she invests into the lives of our students running (literally some days) from the high school to middle school each day.” WCHS Principal Buzz Inboden says, “I would like to say that Julie is truly an educator who thinks more of her children than herself.”

Congratulations, Julie, and thank you for your wonderful contributions to WC and our music program!
