Each year, Worthington Christian Elementary School has a “Celebrate Reading Week,” and a special part of that week is Family Night. Last year’s Reading Week theme was “The Classics,” celebrating classic children’s literature authors and books. Classic characters Mary Poppins, Curious George’s “man in the yellow hat” and others attended last year’s Family Night. It was a light-hearted, fun-filled, memorable evening for the whole family.

The theme of this year’s Celebrate Reading Week is “The Art of Illustrating.” In keeping with that theme, the Family night event has a new venue, new format, and a very special guest.

Worthington Christian Elementary School is honored to host artist and children’s book illustrator Tim Bowers at this year’s Celebrate Reading Family Night on Monday, October 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the AC Auditorium.  Bowers has illustrated over 50 children’s books, two of which have landed on The New York Times Best Seller list.

During Family Night, Bowers will present on his creative process for illustrating a children’s book in an interactive, hands-on demonstration. He will also lead students through a step-by-step drawing process that shows drawing can be fun and it’s not difficult if you follow the steps.

Another new element of this year’s Celebrate Reading Family Night is that it is open to the community. Invite your neighbors and friends with young children to attend this family-friendly evening! There is no preregistration for WCES families, but we do ask that guests of WC interested in attending this special evening with Tim Bowers to RSVP here.
