BREAKING HEAD OF SCHOOL MESSAGE: MIDDLE SCHOOL NAMED NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE
By Troy McIntosh, Head of School
We are pleased to announce that Worthington Christian School has just received notice from the U.S. Department of Education that Worthington Christian Middle School is one of several private schools to receive the 2019 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence for Exemplary High Performance. This is one of the most prestigious school awards in the country and is a testament to the entire school community, but especially the faculty, staff, and students at the middle school. Congratulations on achieving such an honor.
In order to be nominated by the Council for American Private Education for this award, a school’s aggregate student performance on its standardized test scores must place the school in the top 15 percent for all schools nationally in each grade level in both mathematics and language arts. After nomination, a lengthy application and review process takes place. In addition to the middle school’s outstanding performance, our application highlighted our distinct mission as a Christian school.
As the opening paragraph of our application states: The nature of Worthington Christian Middle School is tightly tied to its identity and mission as a Christian school. This identity flows out of a worldview shared throughout the school community that teaches that knowledge and learning have real meaning and purpose in the lives of our students. This worldview also emphasizes the value of each student and the necessity to educate the whole child through “rigorous intellectual, creative and physical pursuits.” Learning is taught as both a duty and an act of worship to God.
Worthington Christian School is now a two-time winner of this award as our elementary school is a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. A delegation of school representatives will travel to Washington, D.C. in November to receive the award from U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.
Please join us in thanking God for the work He is doing at WC. We are grateful for the faithfulness He has shown to us so that the mission of Christian education can be accomplished in a successful way in central Ohio.
