COACHES SPOTLIGHT: DAVE KREBS
Dave Krebs is no stranger to coaching. With the Varsity Boys Bowling team being his 50th youth sports team he has coached, Dave considers coaching youth sports a blessing.
How would you describe your role at WC?
“My role is to develop young men and women to be devoted followers of Christ. They need to learn to trust each other in a team sport and trust Christ in all things. Additionally, they need to develop leadership skills and stand on their own two feet.”
How did you get into coaching?
“This is the 50th youth team I have coached. The first 42 were baseball and softball teams that started with little league tee ball and eventually involved elite travel ball and high school coaching for Worthington Christian in fastpitch softball. I have now coached the Upper School bowling team for eight years. The original inspiration was to be involved in my kid’s lives through sports, having coached all four of them.”
What is the most rewarding thing for you about coaching?
“Finding the best way to reach an athlete and see the light bulb go off. It is also to watch them grow and mature each year. It is gratifying to see a “non-athlete” achieve great success through hard work and perseverance.”
How do you incorporate faith into your coaching?
“We have daily prayer. I believe this is the most important thing we can do. We also visit the nursing home to bowl the residents in Wii bowling. Additionally, we are to be a light as we bowl other teams. We like to provide snacks, drinks, and a welcoming attitude. Our team phrases are “God is Good…All the Time” and GABE – “Godly Attitude Best Effort”
