COACHES SPOTLIGHT: JOSH STIMMEL
Josh Stimmel wasted no time getting involved at WC when he was hired two years ago. As an Upper School math teacher, JV boys basketball coach, and varsity golf coach, Josh finds joy in connecting with students in and out of the classroom. Math, golf, and basketball are a few of Josh’s favorite things, and he loves being involved with students who share those passions.
What inspires you to coach?
“I grew up watching Worthington Christian basketball games with my dad, who was a basketball coach for a long time. Basketball has always been a big part of my life. Although I did not attend WC, I have always had high admiration for the Worthington Christian basketball program. I am thankful to be apart of it and work with talented basketball players and great coaches. I am inspired by our players’ desire to become better basketball players and better followers of Jesus.”
What is the most rewarding thing for you about coaching?
“For me, the most rewarding thing about coaching is seeing our players grow in their abilities and experience the thrill of success on the court”
What is your greatest challenge in this role?
“I think the greatest challenge in coaching basketball is usually figuring out how we can maximize our team’s level of play and how we can be our very best every time we step on the floor.”
How do you incorporate faith into your coaching?
“As a team, we always talk about honoring the Lord in the way we play basketball by giving our very best – no matter what circumstances come our way. (Colossians 3:23!) We also pray together at every practice and game. I love being able to pray openly with the players at Worthington Christian, and I’m always thanking God for giving our players the gifts and abilities they have.”
