HEAD OF SCHOOL MESSAGE: REFLECTING ON GOD’S STEADFAST LOVE
A call to pause and remember God’s steadfastness as we experience the changing of the seasons
Welcome to October and the heart of autumn here in OH-IO. This truly is my favorite time of the year not only for the wonderful fall colors or even Ohio State football it is my favorite because in the change of seasons there is a reminder of God’s steadiness, and it is in that steadiness there is a place of rest.
Like I mentioned last week, each of us is carrying a certain level of fatigue. This can be from COVID directly or indirectly. It may be from general unrest within society. It could even be a mixture of many different things, yet this level of fatigue we are carrying–individually and corporately–remains elevated and that can have a wearing-down effect on us. Our perspectives can seem darker or heavier. Maybe a level of agitation simmers on a low boil and spills over unexpectedly. It is at points like this where God’s steadfastness shines.
For a moment let’s allow our minds to drift back to the dawn of time when God was creating. When He was saying, “Let there be light,” He already knew about the events you and I are experiencing and will experience. As He labored in speaking creation into being, His love for you was already at full bloom and it has not wavered since that point. James penned in the first chapter of his letter, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” God has been, is, and will be and He cares about you and your family. Each of us was created with eternity in mind and for relationship with God.
Remember: we have a God who is interested in us and our kids at the deepest personal level and He is trustworthy and willing to help us. Jesus Himself said, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” A light burden and rest for our souls are exactly what we need and where we need to abide – in Christ.
So, while events in our society are not within our control you and I have direct access to the One who does, and He is crazy about you and wants you to come to Him. He wants to give you rest – His rest. Reach out, talk with Him, dive into His Word, run to Him as He will be there, He does not change God is steadfast.
As the September summertime morphs into the beauty of an October autumn this constant in our world again proclaims God’s caring steadfastness and what a great place for us to abide no matter the circumstances flowing around us. Remember, what He said – Come to Me…
