MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY: BOUNDARIES
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do.” Proverbs 4:23
Boundaries: They come from the LORD.
A boundary is a property line that shows the beginning and end of something. In relationships, ownership is very important. Some of us have strong boundaries and some have none at all. This all depends on your temperament, wiring from the LORD, and experiences.
Summer break will be here before we know it and I want to encourage the WC community to think ahead so the time with your family this summer is thought out and valuable. How are you spending your time? Do your activities nourish you or drain you? Is your calendar packed or completely empty? Do you need to work on putting some boundaries in place?
Here are a few things for you to consider as you think about how to create boundaries in your life so you can be the best for your family.
Core Values: What drives you? What is your foundation built on? Have you created a family mission or constitution?
Thoughts: How do you think about things? Positive? Negative? Avoid? What do you do to keep your thoughts in line?
Feelings: How do you guard your feelings? Do you listen to your feelings a lot, too much, or not at all?
Passions: What gets you up in the morning?
Sins/Weaknesses: How do you keep yourself healthy in this area?
History: Think about your family history. What are the traditions you would like to keep and what are the new traditions you would like to build?
Take some time to think about this and brainstorm with your family before the last day of school. Create a calendar together and ask the LORD to lead your planning and activities. Create a safe, fun, creative space to relax and refresh!
