As we begin a new school year, we want to take a moment to highlight a few new faces at WC, as well as some familiar faces stepping into new roles.
Worthington Christian is excited to welcome Miriam Dawkins (WC ’16) as an Upper School Spanish Teacher. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from Capital University and a Master’s in Education from Liberty University. Miriam comes to us having previously served as a Middle School Spanish Teacher at St. Mary School. Miriam and her husband are excited to be expecting their first child.
We asked staff members several “getting to know you” questions; we hope you enjoy learning a bit more about Miriam!
What is the first job you ever had?
I worked in a Columbus Parks and Rec Youth Sports Camp.
Who was your favorite teacher in school, and why?
Al Iten. He had such a sweet spirit, and he would always say he was praying for me. At school, I referred to him as “grandpa.”
What is your favorite family tradition?
Every Christmas season, my family hosts a gingerbread house competition; we are very competitive.
What is your favorite home-cooked meal?
Salmon croquettes with roasted potatoes and green beans.
What makes a “good day” at school?
When students are able to understand a difficult lesson, and you see the excitement and drive to learn more.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Control the controllables, don’t waste mental energy on things you cannot control. Focus on what you can control.
What is a passage of Scripture you turn to for encouragement?
Jeremiah 1:8-9.
