April 2026 Warrior Athletes of the Month

Share:

The Warrior Athlete of the Month (WAM) recognizes students who exemplify one of the four core pillars of a Warrior Athlete: Focus, Perseverance, Connection, and Leadership. These qualities reflect not only strong athletic performance, but also a character that strengthens our school community. We are incredibly proud of these student-athletes for their dedication, effort, and desire to honor Christ both in competition and throughout the school day.

Thank you to the coaches who submitted nominations. Nominations are open year-round for all middle school and high school athletes, regardless of whether they are in-season or out of season. Coaches can nominate a student-athlete HERE.

Congratulations to last month’s honorees!

FOCUS: Joseph Walton

Tennis | Sophomore
Nominated by Coach De Genaro

“Joseph battled in an extremely well-fought match against Newark, staying focused during “feels like temperatures” in the 30s with high wind. Joseph played a nearly 2-hour-long match in these conditions and battled not only difficult weather but also his own body as he began to experience cramps in his legs. Joseph won his match, never letting outside variables distract him. Joseph continued and demonstrated the grit, integrity, and humility we strive for in our WC athletes.”

PERSEVERE: Lydia Cleverly

Track & Field | Sophomore
Nominated by Coach Betulius

After preparing diligently for high school competition, a shoulder injury sidelined her entire 2025 season. She refused to be discouraged, committing fully to recovery while remaining mentally strong, spiritually grounded, and engaged with her team. In 2026, she returned to win her first three varsity meets—clear evidence of resilience forged through hardship, not just natural ability. Her most recent discus throw of 101’-8” placed her #4 all-time at WC.

LEAD: Bella Gehfeld

Softball | Freshman
Nominated by Coach McGlothlin

Bella checks on everyone and always asks how they are doing. Bella has been the girl who shows up every day and gives 110% effort, leads by example, and constantly asks for ways to improve. Bella has been an inspiration to the whole team and me on how to lead by example and the effort we are all supposed to give. She represents Christ’s love to all her teammates every day on and off the field. Even though this is her first year of high school softball, Bella has led her team and has been an inspiration to everyone.

CONNECT: Jace Cleverly

Tennis | Seventh Grade
Nominated by Coach De Genaro

During our first few weeks of the season, we have talked about our team culture and expressed the desire to build a culture that reflects the Warrior Athlete. Jace’s voice has been a steady presence to encourage his teammates this season, pouring into them and sharing how humility and love for one another and your opponent are an important part of being a Warrior Athlete, even within challenge matches for positions.
