We are heading to bed tonight tired, but deeply content and grateful for a day so well spent. đ
Our students have done an incredible job rolling with the punches, adapting to real-time changes, and giving their very best even when energy was low. The day began around 8:00 a.m., though several students chose to wake early to jog or walk to the nearby beach to watch the sunrise â a beautiful start to a full day.
Red Team began in a village near SCORE, where they served alongside Haitian students who are unable to attend school. They led their program and craft, played baseball, painted nails, and created chalk art together. In the afternoon, they visited a boysâ home for children who have experienced abandonment, neglect, or loss. Our students simply loved on the boys â playing games, laughing, and sharing time together in a large open field.
Blue Team traveled to Ensanche Alta Gracia, the school that serves many students sponsored by WC. They shared a worship song they had prepared, which made for a very special moment. They spent time playing with the children and learning about Maria, the schoolâs history, and WCâs long partnership there. After lunch, they visited a nearby daycare, where they danced and played with the little ones before finishing the afternoon with another group of students and one more program.
Green Team headed to Emmanuel House, a school partnered with SCORE to provide students with a Christian education. Students ranging from about ages 5â18 presented a special assembly they had created in honor of National Down Syndrome Day, sweetly celebrating their own classmates with Down syndrome â truly a highlight of the day. Afterwards, our team led songs, played basketball, served lunch, and listened to the powerful testimony of the woman who founded the school. She then guided them through nearby villages to pray for families facing serious health, financial, and family challenges. It was a sobering and humbling experience to walk through such deep poverty and witness both need and faith side by side.
Yellow Team served at a school in San Pedro, presenting their program to more than 300 students, ages 5â18. They also experienced a cultural outing to a local âJoy Martâ (similar to Walmart), which was a fun change of pace. After five rounds of their program in the heat, they were exhausted but joyful. Many students had opportunities to share their testimonies and practice their Spanish.
Medical Team worked in a nearby neighborhood in the morning and a new village in the afternoon. Along the way, they sampled fresh sugar cane prepared by locals. In total, 98 people were cared for through the clinic, while our students assisted with intake and entertained young children as their mothers waited.
We also learned that â6â7â is apparently a universal language⊠đ (If you know, you know.)
Last night, we opened our week in the Upper Room with a powerful message from Mr. Roads, encouraging students to take small steps of faith, trusting that God has already given them what they need, and reminding them that what they do does not define who they are. Tonight, Mr. Ferrier built on that foundation, challenging students to abide with the authentic Jesus and to choose to remain rooted in their faith. In a beautiful move of the Holy Spirit, many students stayed afterward for an extended time of worship, followed by meaningful conversation and joyful time together.
The group is bonding quickly, laughter is constant, and it is clear that God is at work among us. We are expectant and excited to see what He will continue to do in and through this team in the days ahead.
