Worthington Christian welcomes Grace Lockwood as the Seventh Grade Science Teacher in our Upper School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Cedarville University in Middle Childhood Education (Science, Math, Reading) with a minor in Bible. Grace comes to WC, having previously served as the Title I Math Tutor at New Lebanon School district in Dayton. Grace is the middle child with four brothers, and she spent the first twelve years of her life living in Southern Africa while her parents served on the missions field in Zimbabwe. Grace is new to Columbus and looks forward to attending Linworth Baptist Church.

We asked all of our new staff members several “getting to know you” questions; we hope you enjoy learning a bit more about Grace!

What is something someone might be surprised to find out about you?
The two sports I grew up playing in Africa are Netball (a much less exciting version of basketball) and Field Hockey (like soccer with sticks).

What was the first job you ever had?
My first ever job was as an ice cream scooper at Brusters Ice Cream when I was 16, and I loved it. I would make the ice cream and waffle cones and then work as a cashier.

Who was your favorite teacher in school, and why?
My favorite teacher in school was my high school sociology teacher Mrs. Weideman. Every day she would have a different interactive social experiment play out where she would challenge our views and make us think much deeper about the world. The creativity of each lesson made the class so engaging and made me want to craft my own engaging, interactive lessons.

What is your favorite homecooked meal?
My mom makes a sautéed Thai peanut chicken dish served in lettuce wraps that I love.

If you could quickly and easily learn any new skill, what would it be?
Computer Coding

If you had to delete all but three apps on your phone, which ones would you keep?
Bible App, Spotify, and Camera

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Make it a habit to spend time with the Lord every morning. It will completely change the trajectory of your day.

What is a passage of Scripture you turn to for encouragement?
Isaiah 41:10
fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
