Helpful Information

Common Questions

SGO can be unfamiliar at first. These answers clarify how the program works and how it differs from a traditional charitable gift to Worthington Christian.

How is an SGO contribution different from a charitable gift to Worthington Christian?

SGO contributions are made to a qualified Scholarship Granting Organization, such as OCEN, and support scholarships for eligible students. Depending on the program and your tax situation, they may qualify for a tax credit.

Charitable gifts are made directly to Worthington Christian and support the school’s broader priorities, programs, designated funds, and mission. For questions about charitable giving, contact Kristi Veit, Director of Development.

Can I direct my Ohio SGO contribution to Worthington Christian?

Yes. When contributing through the Ohio Christian Education Network (OCEN), you can designate Worthington Christian School so that your contribution helps provide scholarships for eligible WC students.

What if I usually receive a tax refund?

The Ohio SGO credit reduces your Ohio income tax liability. Whether you typically receive a refund depends on how much tax has already been withheld or paid during the year.

Receiving a refund does not necessarily mean you have no tax liability. However, the credit is nonrefundable, so your individual tax situation matters.

Can both spouses participate?

Yes. For married couples filing jointly, each spouse must make an eligible contribution to qualify for the combined Ohio maximum of $1,500.

When making a combined contribution through OCEN, include both spouses’ names.

What do we know about the federal SGO tax credit?

A new federal scholarship tax credit is scheduled to begin in 2027. Ohio has elected to participate.

We are monitoring developments concerning approved organizations and contribution procedures. This page will be updated as additional details become available.

A note about taxes: The information on this page is general and is not individual tax advice. Tax-credit eligibility and benefits depend on your circumstances. Please consult your tax professional about how Ohio and federal SGO tax credits may apply to you.
